THE VEGETARIAN

We are at the beginning of a new year! a year filled with new hope and bright promises.  We have it in our power to weld this year into a link of gold in the chain of life.  Each one of us is a unit in the universe.  As we do, the world does; as we think, the world thinks; as we live, the world lives.

Understanding our importance in this great network of delicate design, we can readily perceive that we should begin at this moment to live the very best we know.  Not tomorrow, but today.  Tomorrow is a hollow promise.

We are at the dawn of a new year.  Shall we dye its pages with the blood of our fellow-beings, or shall we leave it spotless and pure when a year from now we turn to nineteen hundred and fifteen?  This is a good time to stop once and for all the disgusting habit of eating flesh.  It becomes harder and harder to break away from the habit as it locks one in its toils. The only way to stop is to stop.

Today, January first, is the appointed date.  You have the moral courage, and having the strength of God and conscience as your support, nothing can cause you to fail in your resolution.  Who shall say that appetite is stronger than God?  Who shall admit that habit is more potent than conscience?

To be strong you must assert your strength.  To sit and wish does nothing.  Resolve to due and realize the Spirit of Jesus Christ as your strength.  Reason says, "Do it now."  Spiritual consciousness says, "Do it now."  Understanding says, "Do it now."  There is but one dissenting voice.  It is the voice the cried out for the fleshpots of Egypt -- perverted appetite wails, "You can't do it."

Now is the time to show old appetite just where to "get off."  Now is the time to make your declaration of independence.  Know that God is your strength, and you have the strength of ten.

Will 1914 be a year a carnage?  Answer it for yourself.  -- "Veg."
